PREVENTION AND MANAGEMENT RISING NON COMMUNICABLE DISEASES BY AYURVEDA

Hello everyone!

Greetings from Digital Ayurveda Solutions (DAS)!!

Indian council of medical research, Public helath foundation of India and Institute for health metrics and evaluation has jointly published a report – India: Health of the nation’s states. In this report, they have thoroughly discussed the health status prevailing in various states of India. The study covers the period of 1990 to 2016.

The key findings include –

  • Life expectancy which was 58.3 and 59.7 years for males and females respectively in 1990 has risen to 66.9 and 70.3 years in 2016.
  • Communicable, maternal, neonatal and nutritional diseases which were 61% of the toatal disease burden in 1990 have gone down to 33% in 2016. So, the non communicable disease burden has risen to 61%.

We all are experiencing the rising patient graph of various non communicable diseases like diabetes, ischemic heart diseases, hypertension, endocrine disorders and cancers around us. This report confirms the perceptible fear as a burning truth.

So, how to look at this situation from Ayurveda perspective? Do Ayurveda have some preventive and therapeutic guidelines to address this mammoth problem? Are the Ayurveda physicians trained and capable to handle such patients? Can Ayurveda provide a helping hand to modern medicines and treatments which are the mainstream measures right now?

These are the basic questions being asked by common people and also by the health policy makers. To be honest, no pathy has a sure solution for these rising ailments. Why? Because these disease conditions are developing through a complex pathophysiology and involves various organs and systems. Their causative factors are mainly physical but, the mental and emotional aspects of the etiology are also very strong. These diseases develop slowly, are chronic in nature and difficult to treat because of various non reversible structural and functional changes in the body.

Yes, Ayurveda can contribute much more to find solutions and managing these disease conditions. The patients are approaching Ayurveda physicians as a main or complementary treatment modality. There are many individuals, institutes and research organizations working relentlessly to offer treatments and have got encouraging results in improving morbidity and mortality ratios in these non communicable diseases.

Thanks!!!
